Language: The official language of Peru is Spanish, and Quechua and Aymara are also widely spoken in the Andes region. English is commonly spoken in hotels, tourist areas, and major attractions such as Machu Picchu, Cusco, and Lima.
Currency: Peru uses the Peruvian Sol (PEN) as its official currency. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, but cash is recommended for local markets, taxis, and smaller towns.
Passport Validity: Your U.S. passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Peru and have at least one blank page for entry stamps.
Visa Requirements: U.S. citizens do not need a visa for stays up to 183 days for tourism purposes. Proof of onward travel and sufficient funds may be requested upon entry.
Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is highly recommended for Peru travel, especially for Machu Picchu treks, Amazon rainforest tours, Andean adventure activities, and cultural city excursions. Coverage should include medical expenses, emergency evacuation, and trip interruption.
